Outbound Links

When a visitor clicks a link to another site, the Plausible script sends the goalOutbound Link: Click. The goal has one custom prop, url, which holds the link's address.

Set up

1. Add the Plausible template as a tag. Set Type to Initialization and enter your Script ID.
2. Under Options, tick Outbound Links. It is on by default.
3. Publish the container, or open GTM preview mode on this site.
4. In Plausible, create a custom event goal named Outbound Link: Click.
5. If the url prop does not show up, add it under the site's custom properties settings.

Test

Click each link. Open the Network tab first and filter by event.

Expect

• Each outbound link sends an Outbound Link: Click request before the browser leaves this page.
• The request has a url prop with the link's address, for example https://example.com/.
• The internal link sends no Outbound Link: Click request.
• The link to hricha.com should count as outbound, because its host differs from playground.hricha.com. Confirm it.
• With Outbound Links unticked in the tag, none of the links send the goal.
